OK I have pinpointed a problem I was having earlier with printouts.

We have been having a problem where some of our clients were spearately experiencing an error where random PDF's would be printing out garbled.

Unfortunately, if you printed it out again, it would be fine. This has happened on a number fo different computers a number fo different time.

Unfortuanately, as is the nature of the problem, if I was forwarded the pdf, it would print ok. Now as is my understanding, it's going to be a situation where they have been printing a number of PDF's generated using itext, in succession, then one will print incorrectly. Each PDF will be an attachment in a separate email. As far as I know each lcient uses Outlook Express.

Finally one client compared the garbled printout with the correct printout of exactly the same PDF. the formatting, layout etc. is identicle, however it seems there is a shift in characters on the incorrect printout.

e.g. Say a line should read 'Container 45' it will print out 'Dpoubjofs!56' in bold and underline as required.

so it looks like a offset of one on the character set in the information being sent to the printer. The PDF *always* displays correctly on screen.

has anyone else had this problem, any ideas about solving it. Whether it's an Itext problem or acrobat, I am not sure. Like I said every person using the system regularly has had this happen. I am definately completing the writing of, and closing of the PDF document in the correct manner before it is emailed. We have never had attachement issues using javamail, so I am assuming it's not a problem there.

Thanks in advance

Steve
