Hi,
I think I'll just weigh in with a small comment on this issue.
The OP didn't tell me anything new. Your mail is more useful.
I know about the ANT issue. That's why I have been experimenting with
Maven, trying to find out if a Maven POM offered a better (more standard)
way to build the complete project. In my opinion there are some serious
disadvantages. I can quote Paulo on that: "iText is a single, simple
library,
not really all the Jackarta world that Maven was made for."
On the other hand: there are some advantages, for instance: I have more and
more examples that involve other libraries (Batik, JFreeChart,...). With
Maven
I can define these libraries as dependencies and the end user building the
documentation doesn't have to worry about getting every library in the right
directory.
I'm thinking of a hybrid solution where you could use Maven if you want
to, but using ANT would remain the default.
The OP isn't aware of the fact that I am looking into this stuff, maybe
he thinks
we have no other work to do. I worked closely with a SysAdmin in the past,
and he said his main quality was his laziness. He was very proud about
it, and
with reason: being lazy forced him to write his scripts in such a way
that he
could reduce his work to a minimum. I wish I could be that lazy ;-)
As for the tone, I'm not the one to judge about that. I have quite a temper
too. But I do like Mark's mail because it's very constructive.
For instance: I wasn't aware of the fact that it says you need the JDK1.2
somewhere on the site (I don't read the site that often).
I'll save Mark's mail and try to do something about it when I find the time.
Sometimes I responds rightaway, sometimes it takes a while. If it takes too
long, you are there to help me remember ;-)

Bruno
