Retrieving text from any existing PDF is only possible with OCR tools 
(not free).

If however your PDF documents are Tagged PDFs, a format that is designed 
to solve
problems for (among others) people with reading difficulties, it's a 
completely different
story.
So the question is: what kind of PDFs are you talking about? Tagged PDFs 
or any PDF?
