The way I see it: anyone who is shipping iText is helping iText.
That goes for every company, including Adobe.

Corporate politics are a completely different story; a story
I try to stay as far away from as possible, although I can't
always avoid it. I hear from many companies that iText is hurting
their business; fortunately there are more companies that mail me
saying iText is helping their business. Ah well, that's life.

Concerning Adobe: I'm very happy to have Leonard on the list.
Note that Leonard left the PlanetPDF forum when he started working
for Adobe, but stayed on our list. I value that very much!

Especially because he's still contributing; for instance: Leonard
wrote a short example on how to create a 'portable collection'
(new in PDF 1.7) last December. This inspired me to write full
support for that functionality:
http://www.lowagie.com/itextwiki/doku.php/collections:kubrick
http://www.lowagie.com/itextwiki/doku.php/collections:mail
I like this kind of interaction.

Are we competitors? One could probably make a David vs. Goliath story
out of it, given the fact that Adobe is a huge company, whereas iText
doesn't even have a company; but in reality, there's no real competition
because we're in a completely different league. I think that's good for
both iText and Adobe. iText lowers the threshold for adopting PDF and
certain PDF features. Adobe helps iText through Leonard giving us
pointers and hints about specific technical issues.

In the end, we do have the same goal: making PDF omnipresent.

best regards,
Bruno
