Just to properly explain my situation:
The images do look nice when printed. I print them using a
transform=scale(0,24) to get the nice dpi when printed.
I am guessing that what happens is that the PDFTranscoder does not annotate
the size based on what is shown in the pdf, but rather to the element as it
is indicated by its width and height or other properties for the svg image
element.
