may i know what version of acrobat you're using?
It worked with this code (pdf is attached):
PdfReader reader = new PdfReader("c:\\blank_order.pdf");
PdfStamper stamper = new PdfStamper(reader, new
FileOutputStream("c:\\mc2_out.pdf"));
AcroFields form = stamper.getAcroFields();
form.setField("BARCODE", "1234");
stamper.close();
