Hello,
I did this some years ago:
Use pdftk (based on itext) to extract the page(s) and then convert it to
image using ghostscript.
pdftk is at http://www.accesspdf.com/pdftk/
ghostscript is at http://www.gnu.org/software/ghostscript/
