Any 1.5.x version will do (at least that would be logical). The 2.x series
might work too, but that will depend on your particular use of iText. The
5.x series will definetely not work, for the reasons mentionned before.
Why don't you try some versions posterior to 1.5.4, run some regression
tests, and determine until which version you can safely upgrade?
