Thanks! But when I do so, I am not picking up the hsqldb drivers which are located on my classpath? Also shouldn't they be finding my jar from the dependencies in my pom file? Sorry for so many
questions - still new to Maven world as well as iText!

That's normal, I just tested it, it's because the dependency isn't in the pom :) . I've added it in the trunk

-----------
add hsqldb to dependencies

Modified Paths:
--------------
    book/pom.xml

Or you could add
<dependency>
<groupId>hsqldb</groupId>
<artifactId>hsqldb</artifactId>
<version>1.8.0.7</version>
<type>jar</type>
<scope>runtime</scope>
</dependency>
to the dependency section of the pom in your downloaded version

Many thanks. Am now able to build all the examples with no errors.

And I can run the examples crudely by setting up an appropriate
    classpath

and running the java command with class name.

Is there a Maven command to run a specific example from the many

    available?

Yes with the maven exec plugin

    mvn exec:java -Dexec.mainClass="com.foo.bar.Main"

and replace the com.foo.bar.Main with the class you'd like to run.

    Goodluck !

    Thanks,

    Hi Richard

    Thanks for letting us know.

    Hi All,

Downloaded the latest examples tar from the web site as well as
the latest (?) itext jar file

(labeled as iText-5.0.6) and ran mvn install on the examples
    folder pom.xml

and get two artifacts missing as listed below.

I believe that tarball is made from the svn trunk, hence it
points to the latest development version of itext which is
    5.0.7-SNAPSHOT

    1) com.itextpdf:itextpdf:jar:5.0.7-SNAPSHOT

    2) com.itextpdf:itext-xtra:jar:5.0.7-SNAPSHOT

Where might I get the 5.0.7-SNAPSHOT jars?

To get the snapshot, you can checkout |svn co
    https://itext.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/itext/trunk/itext|
and run mvn install on that.
same count for the xtras they are at
    https://itext.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/itext/trunk/xtra

we're in the process of setting up a repository that contains the
snapshots too, but we're not yet finished with it.

Or should I just edit the pom file?

You can edit the pom file, set the com.itextpdf:itextpdf:jar
    dependency to 5.0.6
this will also include the stuff that will be in the
itext-xtra.jar next release (the RichMedia stuff) and, I think,
then you can remove the reference in the pom to xtra, I believe
it should not affect the book examples.

    I don't see the itext-xtra.jar file either?

The xtra jar contains the RichMediaAnnotations, we took those out
of the core since 5.0.7-SNAPSHOT. And also contains code for
geospatial PDF (from the future PDF spec 2.0)

    Thanks,

    Rich
