OOPS. I think that last sentence is wrong because I've got a log file:

  svn_update_main_book.log

containing:

~/prog_dev/itext/svn/main $ svn update
D lib
D src
D rups
D itext/itext-asiancmaps.pom
A itext/notice.txt

so I'm guessing the itext-rups-5.0.7-SNAPSHOT-jar-with-dependencies.jar
was left over from last year when I tried itext. I've not tried
it yet, but I suspect I'll have to use the pom.xml from:

  https://itextrups.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/itextrups/trunk

to build the

  itext-rups-5.0.7-SNAPSHOT-jar-with-dependencies.jar

Sorry for noise :(
