It could also be webserver-related, for example the webserver is not
sending the correct MIME type along with the bytestream that contains your
PDF data. Some browsers just get confused.
That's an issue I once encountered at my previous job. Also with PDF
files, but generated with another tool.

Either way, if it works in another browser or on the filesystem, then it's
not iText related.
