Supporting the XDP page layout language is NOT a "simple task"....
We know, but we've made huge progress with XFA Worker; it's now being used in production with several of our customers. For instance: the Belgian department of Justice is using an XML workflow to compile all the information needed to register a new company. This XML is injected in a dynamic, XFA-based PDF form for human consumption. Once the registration process is finalized, the document is persisted as a PDF/A document using iText's XFA Worker.
As far as I know, we currently only support XDP streams that are contained in a PDF document. However: as we have the engine to parse and render the XDP stream, I think we could support pure XDP to PDF conversion in the near future. I've forwarded the question to the XFA Worker development team. They'll be in touch with you soon.
