The new IT service management standard has just been published. The new standard is known as BS ISO/IEC 20000:2005 and replaces BS 15000, which is now withdrawn. BS ISO/IEC 20000 has been developed as the new standard for IT service management in order to meet the needs of a wider international audience and to provide a common understanding of the management of IT services worldwide. Differences between BS 15000 and BS ISO/IEC 20000 Whilst there have not been major changes to the meaning of the standard, about a third of it has been re-written. Changes include: The structures of Parts 1 and 2 have been aligned Standardization of terms such as "service provider", "organization", "business" and "supplier" Clarification of the wording of some requirements Small number of changes to requirements. BS ISO/IEC 20000 will also be a two-part document just like BS 15000. The two parts are: BS ISO/IEC 20000-1:2005 IT service management.
