I really appreciate your helpful responses; you've helped us move a lot
closer to our goals!  ;-)

Qiang suggests that we use the 20130913.12 release, sounds better to me--
would you concur?  Any caveats that you can see?

In the short term we don't *have* to have a flawless build, so long as we
can successfully rebuild the parts that we are working on (and we have a
way to integrate them into the image).  Those bits we need to be able to
build flawlessly before we start hacking on code, how else will we know
that we've broken stuff!
