Hi Paul, From: Hanchett, Paul [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Friday, September 13, 2013 5:44 PM To: VanCutsem, Geoffroy Cc: [email protected] Subject: Re: (Re)Building the IVI M2 Aug release
Thanks Geoffroy-- I really appreciate your helpful responses; you've helped us move a lot closer to our goals! ;-) [Geoffroy] Thanks, I'm glad it helps you and it's really great to see you poking at this and it helps us improve the tools and processes too! Qiang suggests that we use the 20130913.12 release, sounds better to me-- would you concur? Any caveats that you can see? [Geoffroy] Yes, I would absolutely concur... with the following caveats: - The process highlighted by Qiang is really for rebuilding the latest image available. If you need/want to rebuild a version that has been released some time ago (like the July or August preview) then we need to tweak the instructions somewhat. A lot of what I was describing (like downloading a specific manifest.xml and build.conf file vs. using the ones in Git) applies to this latter use case although we know there were other inherent problems with previous images (like circulare dependencies, etc.) - There are still some failures that I can see (even in OBS) so do not expect yet to be able to rebuild all and every package today (just setting expectations ;-)) In the short term we don't *have* to have a flawless build, so long as we can successfully rebuild the parts that we are working on (and we have a way to integrate them into the image). Those bits we need to be able to build flawlessly before we start hacking on code, how else will we know that we've broken stuff!
