The wiki page

was recommending firmware that ivtv no longer likes. I have updated
the wiki page slightly:
the version marked "***" is the version of firmware recommended
for use with ivtv older than 0.3.9. The version marked "****" is
recommended for later versions of ivtv.
From the Wiki:

The latter phrase is intended as 'Using a new *encoding firmware*
version will cause the messages:', right?
Furthermore, I guess it would be very beneficial to make an explicit
relation between the Wiki table and the revision numbers used in ivtv
log messages.
and
**** This is the version of firmware (encoder revision 0x02050032)
recommended for use with ivtv 0.3.9 and later.
But why is it recommended? I have the *** firmware version and latest
SVN version of IVTV and everything seems fine.
I recommended
ftp://ftp.shspvr.com/download/wintv-pvr_250-350/inf/pvr_1.18.21.22254_inf.zip
(not the latest) because I found a now-deleted page from a different
wiki that recommended this file.
Do we have a more authorative source of information based on which we
can objectively recommend a certain firmware? I'm all happy to update my
firmware, but some good reason would be appreciated. Maby some of the
devs can elaborate on this, since I remember a post on this list
recently that questioned if the latest firmware should be recommended.
It does have the recommended decoder
firmware revision. I didn't figure out anything about decoder
firmware since I only have a 250.
The decoder firmware (according to the md5sum) is not changed for a very
long time, certainly not between *** and **** according to the wiki table.
Please correct!
Is 0.3.9 the actual transition point?
The devs have to answer this, but actually it does not care after Hans
makes his next release.
Is the decoder in pvr_1.18.21.22254_inf.zip the recommended one?
Does it matter as long as the right firmwares are included?
