Just to explicitly close the above thread: Hans has altered the source and made 
it work.

"ivtvctl -q1" now properly selects "Audio Line In" for me, and the
 audio works (changes committed yesterday, to 0.4 and 0.5 cvs & svn)

As far as the above, if anyone wants to chime in, for idle curiosity...
 If someone is getting a stereo throughput, then, perhaps, my
monauralization happens BEFORE the audio reaches my PVR350 card, and 
at the source.
