So Jim, is the new firmware NOT solving the problem for you?

I just came here to report my preliminary results. I installed the new
firmware and I could not reproduce the tinny audio in Mythtv. The way I
reproduced it before was to run a simple bash script with an infinite
loop that does

ivtvctl --device=/dev/video0 -q0

With the older firmware, this would invariably induce the tinny audio
within 10 or so iterations (as a side note, what it actually does is
"toggle" between good and tinny audio; it ALWAYS toggles tinny to good,
but maybe 10-20% of the time toggles good to tinny; in any case, it's
been a reliable test).

With the new firmware, I tried a couple of times with 50+ iterations,
and wasn't able to induce the tinny audio.

It's admittedly early to conclude anything, and I really won't know for
sure until I get some recordings on this card, but it looks promising.
