I've seen posts where people recommended increasing the load timeout, but the default is actually pretty long (cat /sys/class/firmware/timeout should be 60). I can get the first attempt to load the firmware to fail if I decrease the timeout but not with the same error. The location for FC5 would be /lib/firmware, you could easily test this as your log shows that one request_firmware call succeeded: cx25840 1-0044: loaded v4l-cx25840.fw firmware (13353 bytes) Same basic mechanism at work there so it is working, at least partially.
