I also have virtually the same hardware, except that instead of 2
PVR-150 and a HD3000 I have one PVR-350 and a Planet WL-8310 (Wifi)
card. The system is pretty stable and is powered up all the time. Kernel
is linux-2.6.15.6 and IVTV is 0.4.5. The TV is connected to the PVR-350
and the audio goes through the optical out to the AV-receiver.

I don't think the system load is significant as I frequently run a
script to compress the mpeg to xvid in a matroska container, during this
time the cpu is running at about 100%. Simultaneously, I record
something and watch something else without any noticeable problems.

The only problems that I have are:
After several days to a week or so the audio disappears from the mpeg
stream, earlier versions of ivtv this problem occurred more frequently.
The ivtv X-Driver occasionally crashes.
