I set up a Myth box for a friend--who has 4 PVR-250's with the LG
tuner--and his picture quality was bad with one card installed and
terrible (barely watchable in his opinion--not watchable in mine) once
we split the signal and installed all four cards. He had the cable
company test his signal and he had a -0.25dB signal at the entry point
to the house (so it didn't "need" amplification--signal loss on a good
cable is very small and even after using a splitter--which typically is
another -7dB--it looked good on a TV). Nevertheless, I convinced him to
buy an amp (from a store that allowed him to return it at no cost) and
now he has a perfect signal on all four tuners--same quality as plugging
directly into the TV...

What kinda amp did he buy and from where?

Not exactly sure. I'll find out. I'm traveling, very poor cell phone reception, and he's not answering his phone. It was about $30 and he bought it from a Base Exchange. I'm know it wasn't anything special. It has an adjustable gain, but adjusting the gain doesn't seem to do much (same effect on its lowest and highest settings). If you know of a store that has a no-cost return policy, you might want to just pick up a powered amp and see what happens.
