I set up a Myth box for a friend--who has 4 PVR-250's with the LG
tuner--and his picture quality was bad with one card installed and
terrible (barely watchable in his opinion--not watchable in mine) once
we split the signal and installed all four cards. He had the cable
company test his signal and he had a -0.25dB signal at the entry point
to the house (so it didn't "need" amplification--signal loss on a good
cable is very small and even after using a splitter--which typically is
another -7dB--it looked good on a TV). Nevertheless, I convinced him to
buy an amp (from a store that allowed him to return it at no cost) and
now he has a perfect signal on all four tuners--same quality as plugging
directly into the TV...
What kinda amp did he buy and from where?
Not exactly sure. I'll find out.
It was a cheap ($29.99) Arista amp. He bought it and a more-expensive ($50) powered amp/splitter, but got the same results with both, so he went with the $5 four-way (non-amplified) splitter he already had, put the $30 amp in front of it, and returned the $50 amp/splitter.
