That last line worries me a bit. Check if your tuner-module is loaded.
the tuner-module at least showed up in lsmod.
What I find strange: your 1st post shows 0.3.2j tveeprom not detecting
the correct tuner, the
last one does, but the tuner module doesn't seem to be loaded.
well, as I mentioned before, it showed up in my lsmod-output
Did you run depmod -a after removing the SAB-tuner?
yes.
now here comes the good bit. None of them failed verbose but when I do the followingNone of the devices seem to need that SAB-tuner so I don't think that's the cause of the problems.
Have you tried manually loading the modules and see what happens and
which ones fail?

this is higly reproducable on my machine (it survived two reboots and a newly done depmod -a and the procedure shown above about 20 times)
mplayer starts up (okay, I had to retry it three time) but the output looks somewhat strage... I like to describe it as the effect you get when you display a textfile on a console with automatic linewrapping enabled and every line of the text is one character too long... so you end up with just an image where every second line is mostly black and the lower half image missing. A cat /dev/video >test.mpg did only produce an empty file named test.mpg, even after several retries. I would have liked to show this to the world, but... well...
