Petter, thanks for sticking with me...

I have enabled the following in the kernel:
Device Drivers --->
        Multimedia devices --->
                <*> Video for Linux (this was already set)
                        Video For Linux --->
                                <M> BT848 Video For Linux

No other adapters are enabled.
I then did:
make modules
make modules_install

and then,

modprobe tuner  (dmesg didn't change)
modprobe ivtv (dmesg is below... looks like the tuner was detected).

now, in Myth, I can tune to channels 5 and 6 but all others are static...
this is actually the state I was in
last night after my first attempt at this install, so I'm not sure if I've
gained anything (except a whole lot better understanding of all the things
to try while troubleshooting).

Incidentally, I have changed my myth setting to use the the us-cable and
us-cable-hr settings and both result in this.

I'll go do some more searches, as I seem to remember this particular symptom
before. If anyone knows a solution, it would be very appreciated.

thanks again,
jim

This is probably the problem. Did you remove your kernel's tuner module when
installing version 0.3.3y, as described in docs/QuickSetup? I don't think
version 0.2.2 has its own tuner module, so you have to use the kernel's. If
you do have the tuner module, try a modprobe tuner before modprobe ivtv.
That should probably give some more information.

Regards,
Petter
