Actually, the setting you are looking is in mythtv-setup (run it from a
xterm, it's the thing that ran when you first installed)

Its under tuner config I think.  The setting you are looking for is "vbi
format" set it to none.  I think that checkmark just prevents it from
showing.

at least pressing "T" while watching live tv works. the config option is
somewhere in the TV config section of mythfrontend, i forgot where i got
it. it's not called "VBI" but rather "closed caption". In german it's
"Untertitel".
