Something just occured to me that could set you on the right path to
solving this.

The "black magic" code that used to be in cx25840.ko wrote 4 bytes to
the tda9887: 0x00, 0x16, 0x70, 0x4a.

If you set debug=1 on the tda9887 module, when it loads it will give
you information about what it is writing eg: "writing: b=0x16 c=0x70
e=0x4a" -the first byte is always 0x00, though it isn't displayed.

I guess you could just play with the parameters until you get the
td9887 to line up with what the cx25840 used to do.

(If I have time I'll actually look at the tda9887 code to see what it's doing.)
