I removed qss=0 from /sbin/modprobe tda9887 and got perfect sound on

Dmesg states: cx25840: Unknown parameter 'audiofmt' - but if I remove it
from the /sbin/modprobe cx25840 – I got no video for the 500 – so I have
ended up with (350 + 500):
/sbin/modprobe cx25840 i2c_enable=-1,1,1 audiofmt=0x04

something wrong with the audiofmt parameter?

Assuming you are referring to a recent version, that parameter and
it's assiciated code no longer exist.

I'm using 0.3.5.z – so it is very strange that I have to use 'audiofmt'
- but it won't work without it.
