Hi, i have spent weeks trying to build and install drivers on my recently installed Fedora Core 4
it looks like ivtv-0.2.0-rc3k has just become available. It is the one that seems to be working THE MOST, compared to other version attempts. The 0.2.0-rc3j drivers failed to make at all on FC4. Thus, before the next 0.2 version (k) became available, i tinkered for days with 0.3.3, which compiled but failed to load and work properly Finally, the 0.2.00rc3k compiled last night. I still need to use force ( "modprobe -f" ) to load the modules, and thus get the version magic & tainted kernel errors. This could be related to the gcc-4.0 difficulties FC4 presents, vis-a-vis "older" source code (I normally solve it by using CC=gcc32, but i'm not sure i can compile these drivers with that option, and the version magic mismatch mentions gcc-4.0 for the modules). On a couple of modprobes recently, module ivtv failed even with the force option. But, strangely, one or more subsequent tries makes it load. Xine shows /dev/video from stdin, with no apparent errors anywhere. However, cat /dev/video >/dev/video16 produces audio but no video. Gnomeradio has never worked, although it does detect /dev/radio ------- Regarding image quailty -------------------------- I have seen many user messages saying that the captured video is sharp; however, mine is noticeably blurrier (viewed in Xine) than the image on my TV. Am i missing something? ivtvctl says I am using Width : 720 Height : 480 --------------------------------------------------- Latest initialization dmesg: Linux video capture interface: v1.00 ivtv: version magic '2.6.11-1.1369_FC4smp SMP PENTIUMIII REGPARM 4KSTACKS gcc-4.0' should be '2.6.11-1.1369_FC4smp SMP 686 REGPARM 4KSTACKS gcc-4.0' ivtv: no version magic, tainting kernel. ivtv: ==================== START INIT IVTV ==================== ivtv: version 0.2.0 (rc3j) loading ivtv: Linux version: 2.6.11-1.1369_FC4smp SMP PENTIUMIII REGPARM 4KSTACKS gcc-4.0 ivtv: In case of problems please include the debug info ivtv: between the START INIT IVTV and END INIT IVTV lines when ivtv: mailing the ivtv-devel mailinglist. ivtv: Autodetected WinTV PVR 350 card ivtv: Found an iTVC15 based chip ivtv: Unreasonably low latency timer, setting to 64 (was 32) ivtv: VIA PCI device: 0x0691 vendor: 0x1106 cx25840: FW image '/lib/modules/HcwMakoA.ROM' of size 13883 loaded. cx25840: FW image md5 digest: 477c9501b304ff772bf2b74dc638b943 cx25840: FW image sha1 digest: 54efb2df21498d8f4c2db33cb6ef9118f6151b5c ivtv: i2c attach [client=cx25840,ok] msp34xx: ivtv version msp34xx: init: chip=MSP3448W-A2, has NICAM support, simple (D) mode, simpler (G) no-thread mode msp34xx: $Id$ compiled on: Jul 2 2005 12:04:22 ivtv: i2c attach [client=MSP3448W-A2,ok] saa7115: starting probe for adapter ivtv i2c driver #0 (0x10005) saa7115: detecting saa7115 client on address 0x42 saa7115: writing init values ivtv: i2c attach [client=saa7115,ok] saa7115: status: (1E) 0x48, (1F) 0xc0 tuner: chip found at addr 0xc2 i2c-bus ivtv i2c driver #0 ivtv: i2c attach [client=(tuner unset),ok] tveeprom: Hauppauge: model = 48132, rev = K168, serial# = XXXXXX tveeprom: tuner = LG TAPE H001F MK3 (idx = 68, type = 47) tveeprom: tuner fmt = NTSC(M) (eeprom = 0x08, v4l2 = 0x00001000) tveeprom: audio_processor = MSP3440 (type = 11) ivtv: i2c attach [client=tveeprom,ok] ivtv: Tuner Type 47, Tuner formats 0x00001000, Radio: yes, Model 0x00ad1598, Revision 0x00000001 ivtv: NTSC tuner detected ivtv: Radio detected ivtv: Encoder revision: 0x02050032 ivtv: Encoder Firmware may be buggy, use version 0x02040011 ivtv: Decoder revision: 0x02020023 ivtv: Configuring WinTV PVR 350 card with 9 streams ivtv: Create DMA stream 0 using 256 16384 byte buffers 4194304 kbytes total ivtv: Registered v4l2 device, streamtype 0 minor 0 ivtv: Create DMA stream 1 ivtv: Registered v4l2 device, streamtype 1 minor 32 ivtv: Create stream 2 using 40 52224 byte buffers 2097152 kbytes total ivtv: Registered v4l2 device, streamtype 2 minor 224 ivtv: Create DMA stream 3 using 455 4608 byte buffers 2097152 kbytes total ivtv: Registered v4l2 device, streamtype 3 minor 24 ivtv: Create stream 4 ivtv: Registered v4l2 device, streamtype 4 minor 64 ivtv: Create DMA stream 5 using 16 65536 byte buffers 1048576 kbytes total ivtv: Registered v4l2 device, streamtype 5 minor 16 ivtv: Create stream 6 using 1024 2048 byte buffers 262144 kbytes total ivtv: Registered v4l2 device, streamtype 6 minor 228 ivtv: Create stream 7 ivtv: Registered v4l2 device, streamtype 7 minor 232 ivtv: Create DMA stream 8 ivtv: Registered v4l2 device, streamtype 8 minor 48 ivtv: Setting Tuner 47 tuner: type set to 47 (LG NTSC (TAPE series)) by ivtv i2c driver #0 saa7115: decoder set input (4) saa7115: now setting Composite input ivtv: Setting audio matrix to input 3, output 1 ivtv: Switching standard to NTSC. ivtv: ivtv_enc_thread: pid = 4216, itv = 0xf8c5cb20 ivtv: ivtv_dec_thread: pid = 4217, itv = 0xf8c5cb20 saa7115: decoder set norm NTSC saa7115: set audio: 0x01 cx25840: invalid ioctl 40046502 ivtv: Initialized WinTV PVR 350, card #0 ivtv: ==================== END INIT IVTV ==================== cat /dev/video >/dev/video16 produces the following dmesg: cx25840: invalid ioctl 40046567 cx25840: invalid ioctl 40046566 cx25840: invalid ioctl 40046568 cx25840: invalid ioctl 40046569 cx25840: invalid ioctl 4004656A --------------- Prior to ivtv module, i load the other seven modules, and get the following messages: cx25840: no version for "struct_module" found: kernel tainted. cx25840: no version magic, tainting kernel. cx25840: Ignoring new-style parameters in presence of obsolete ones msp3400: no version magic, tainting kernel. saa7115: no version magic, tainting kernel. saa7127: no version magic, tainting kernel. saa7127: Ignoring new-style parameters in presence of obsolete ones saa7127: video encoder driver version V 0.3 loaded tuner: no version magic, tainting kernel. tuner: Ignoring new-style parameters in presence of obsolete ones tveeprom: no version magic, tainting kernel. wm8775: no version magic, tainting kernel. wm8775: Ignoring new-style parameters in presence of obsolete ones (by the way, why version 0.3 in "saa7127: video encoder driver version V 0.3 loaded" ?
