(so no firmware is uploaded) I get the same symptoms: video OK, no sound. So
tomorrow I'm going to look closer to the firmware handling (add code to read
back the firmware and check if it is the same) and see if there are other
oddities that might cause problems.

You can override the firmware's autodetection by setting AUD_STANDARD
manually. That would be a good test.
