Go to your motherboard manufacturer's Website and look for a bios update. It's worked for a few VIA chipset users including myself.

Hello everyone,

I?m having a problem getting mythtv to work on my system. It spontaneously
reboots after anywhere from 5 to about 20 minutes of watching live TV. It seems
to happen more quickly if I record a listing and try to watch live TV at the
same time.

I?ve tried the following system configurations:

Hardware:

ASUS A7V133 Socket A (462) motherboard

VIA KT133 chipset I believe

AMD Athlon 1400 Mhz processor

Award P&P BIOS (Extension v1.0A) - REV 1005A (original BIOS) and REV 1009
(latest stable update)

ATI Radeon 9200 video card

Hauppauge 550MCE video capture card
using the HcwMakoAud.ROM and HcwMakoA.ROM from the CD (v2.6) that shipped with
the 550MCE
(copied from /media/cdrecorder/WinTV-PVR-150500MCE_2_0_30_23074_WHQL)

Software:
Distribution: Fedora Core 4
Kernels: 2.6.11-1.1369_FC4 (Fedora Core 4 base) and 2.6.12-1.1447_FC4 (Fedora
Core 4 updates)

I?ve tried the stable IVTV drivers from atrpms.net
ivtv-0.2.0-69_rc3k.rhfc4.at.i386.rpm
ivtv-kernheaders-0.2.0-69_rc3k.rhfc4.at.i386.rpm

and the development versions from atrpms.net
ivtv-kernheaders-0.3.8-97.rhfc4.at.i386.rpm
ivtv-0.3.8-97.rhfc4.at.i386.rpm

I?ve also tried the folowing source packages directly from the
ivtv.sourceforge.net web site:
ivtv-0.3.7d.tgz
ivtv-0.3.7e.tgz
ivtv-0.3.7j.tgz
ivtv-0.3.7k.tgz

All of the packages compiles/installed with no problems or errors as far as I
can tell. All of the packages loaded (using depmod ivtv) with no glaring errors
as far as I can tell.

The card is recognized when I run through the setup in mythtv with no problems,
there seems to be no problems with the colors or aspect ratio?s of the video
stream.

I saw an archived message in the mailing list to remove the video capture cards
from mythtv and re-add them (to fix the spontaneous reboot problem) and tried
that.

I?ve disabled all the firewalling/SELinux stuff and am running everthing as
root for these test.

Nothing seems to help. I read in the mailing list archives that Linux just
doesn?t have very good support for the VIA chipsets, so this may be my
problem. Is there anything else I can try or should I buy a motherboard with an
Intel chipset?

I believe that I?ve include all the information that the list has asked for
(except for the dmesg output included below) to trouble shooting these
problems. Let me know if there is anything that I have missed.

Thanks,
Brad
