If you want to watch TV in another window while doing other work, then
perhaps MythTV is too heavy for you, although this is easily achieved too.

I must say, even after using it for more than a year now, MythTV still
succeeds in surprising me, like when I get home and have a look what it
has recorded (or has scheduled to record) and see that a new serie of
episodes for one of my favorite shows has started again (having missed
this in the TV guide; heck I don't even need a guide anymore)...
