Well, either it is the ivtv-driver or it is hotplug. Have you tried to
install hotplug from tarball?
I've tried the new firmware with ivtv-0.4.0 and it works fine, can't get it
to work with 0.4.1 or 0.4.2, so i'm thinking of hotplug being an issue here.

I think Mr Hans Verkuil wrote that it's was better to use 0.5.2 than the 0.4.1/0.4.2 (may have missunderstod him), but 0.5.2 is gone from the SVN and replaced with 0.6.

I can say I didn't get 0.4.1/0.4.2 to work with my 2.6.15 kernel, but the 0.5.2 seemed to work somewhat (tuner problems for my pvr250). Now I'm with the 0.6 which works fine with the latest v4l CVS (we gott support for the grey remotes, 34 buttons and 45 buttons when loading the ir-kbd-i2c driver with hauppauge=1 param).

I should add that I don't have much knowledge about hotplug, so I don't know
where to look for errors.

Don't think hotplug really have much effect here, the firmware should be able to be loaded even without hotplug, as long as they are in the right place.
