In y'all's experience, what have you found to be a good bitrate to use when recording video intended to be written to DVD? I see claims online that 5 Mb/s is fairly "standard" for DVDs, but ivtv defaults to 8 Mb/s, which is nearly twice that rate -- I'm trying at 5 Mb/s, and it seems like it's a little worse, but I can't tell if I just think that because I expect it to be. I would just use 8 Mb/s, but that is terribly size-restrictive. I'm trying to make fairly definitive backups of VHS tapes, and I would really like to decide on a bitrate and leave it at that. So what do you folks use?
