If the dkms package works on your system, then yes please!

As you can see in the bugreport they favor to have all kernel
drivers in the kernel package. I don't see anything wrong with this,
but they *do* need to maintain these drivers (or remove them).

As I can't work on the kernel package (it's (technically) locked for
only a few mandriva employees to work on), I've found a way to get
the ivtv drivers to work with DKMS.

the ivtv-stable package contains the userland tools for ivtv.

the dkms-ivtv-stable package contains kernel source from which dkms
compiles the kernel module for your kernel.
