I had a similar issue. I solved it by: /sbin/lspci -v to check the IRQ assigned to the PVR-* card more /proc/interrupts to see what it is conflicting with. In my case it was conflicting with the firewire port.
Since I was not using firewire, I disabled it off in the BIOS. Also disabled the serial and parallel ports.
