Success! The Debian package available on the site you recommended didn't work for me, but I was able to download and compile the source without any hassle. The instructions on the web site are actually very clear. Once installed, Xawtv was able to detect and use my card with no further hassle. The reception is crisp and clear. I am now in the process of adding channels. It does not seem to auto-scan in a reliable way. After that, I will attempt to get the remote control working. But at this point, I would say that the question that started this thread has been successfully answered.
