IVTV list,

I hope this is the appropriate place to ask this question. This list is
so knowledgeable and helpful about TV/Linux issues in general that it
seems the best place to get an answer, although this question may be off
topic. Please direct me to a better forum if I have strayed too far.

Thanks to help on this list, I can successfully see TV signals using
Xawtv and my Hauppage PVR-150.

From the following web site, I have also been able to successfully
install the correct drivers for the remote control and LIRC:
http://s91928265.onlinehome.us/hfamily/mythtv/myth_ubuntu.html

At the command prompt, when I run "irw" and press buttons on my remote,
I get the following output:
0000000000001781 00 1 Hauppauge_350
0000000000001782 00 2 Hauppauge_350
0000000000001783 00 3 Hauppauge_350
0000000000001784 00 4 Hauppauge_350
0000000000001785 00 5 Hauppauge_350
00000000000017a5 00 OK Hauppauge_350

As you can see, it is correctly identifying the buttons, although
mis-identifying the card as a PVR-350.

Under section 7 of the web site cited above, it provides instructions
specific to getting the remote to be configured as a PVR-150, and
provides a configuration text file. Unfortunately, after downloading the
appropriate PVR-150 specific file, it then goes into instructions that
relate to MythTV.

What I really want to do is correctly identify the remote control as a
Hauppauge_150 (or whatever the LIRC designation is for the PVR-150), and
then have it change channels in Xawtv. I have not been able to find
instructions on the web which clearly specify how to do this. By
searching the web I have discovered that there is a program called
xawtv-remote, but running it simultaneously with xawtv has produced no
results, I suspect because I have not properly configured the remote for
use with the program.

If anyone can explain how to correctly make the configuration, or point
me to an easily understandable set of instructions, that would be great.

And, if I may push the matter... is it possible to have LIRC, or irw,
running at boot time so that pressing some button on the remote can do
specific tasks, such as start and stop xawtv? Perhaps even shut down the
system?

Any advice is much appreciated. Thank you for taking the time to read this.
