Thanks for the replies. A little more review of the README file for 0.4.5 provided the solution. Feel stupid for not figuring that comment was for me.
So I just- 1) made the edits recommended in the README file 2) make 3) make install 4) followed the guidance on http://ivtvdriver.org/index.php/Howto for mandriva modules 5) depmod -a 6) rebooted Seems to work like a champ.
