I realized that I have done at least one more dumb thing - I've changed kernel/driver versions in the middle of the discussion.

Under 2.6.11-1.1369_FC4 w/ ivtv 0.4.5, "ivtv-radio -s" finds no station, and neither does fmscan.  Issuing "ivtv-radio -f 90.9 -c "cat %s > /tmp/foo2.pcm"" gives me a file full of static.

Under 2.6.17-1.2139_FC4 and ivtv 0.7, both fmscan and ivtv-radio -s will find the stations - and the correct stations for my area - but trying to record gives me a file of zeros from "cat /dev/video24" > /tmp/foo.pcm and the zero/ff pattern from

ivtv-radio -d /dev/radio0 -f 90.1 -c "cat %s > /tmp/foob.pcm".

The fact that fmscan and ivtv-radio both scan and find the stations correctly tells me that it's not *likely* a problem with reception.  Am I correct in that thinking?

under either kernel version, "ivtv-radio -f 90.1 -j" will say "set to freq 90.06" or "set to freq 90.10", depending upon the version, but will never return to a command prompt.

If I'm being completely stupid about this, please feel free to beat me with a clue-stick.

steve
