Can you try this: start recording, then run this command:

ivtvctl -v input=0x00222226,output=0x44

Does this enable sound?

>From what ivtv version did you upgrade? Did it work OK in that version?

The reason for your problems is that you have a very old PVR350, which 
probably needs a different audio setup. I have one myself (PAL model), 
and I can only get mono sound from it.
