and I have followed the link patched the files (did that with an editor) and recompiled ivtv (emerge ivtv). But I gives the same result: tuner 0-0061: tuner type not set
Is there something that I'm forgetting?

Yes but this tuner this tuner is not working with 2.6.17 yet.
2 options, use kernel 2.6.15 and the latest IVTV 0.4.x in portage or
apply the patch from the below link.
