I have a Phillips based PVR-500 and the Samsung 2121P30A (2221P30A after the patch) based PVR-500. Between the quality patch from Hans, and a Motorola cable amp, I now have just as good (or at least real close) quality on the Samsung as on the Phillips. The patch had made a difference, but the cable amp made the biggest difference. It appears that the Samsung tuners are much more sensitive to signal levels (ie. they need more). I got a Motorola BDA-100S1 from Ebay on someone's advice (I think from this list). It's the first cable amp that has actually made a difference... even for my "regular" TVs.
