What DMA errors?

The Too many video packets in the buffer: (4096 in 8105496 bytes).
Maybe you are playing a non-interleaved stream/file or the codec failed?
For AVI files, try to force non-interleaved mode with the -ni option.

With mplayer and the:
Oct 31 20:03:35 localhost kernel: [17300117.252000] ivtv0 warning: No memory on
buffer alloc!
Oct 31 20:03:35 localhost kernel: [17300117.252000] ivtv0 warning: Needed 90112
bufs for encoder MPEG stream, received 32768 (buffers free 0, dma 0, full 223)
