Oh thank you for your reply!

        Unfortunately yes, I have selected an input, and I'm confident I
have the correct input as I receive the "Signal Detected" message when I
set the channel.  Despite that, my test.mpg is still 0kb.

        Where can I turn next?

        Thanks again for your reply.  Without any obvious error
messages, I am really stuck here :(
