I found that I had to recompile my kernel to add the option for
the cx2584x module to fix this error.
However, it was tricky, as this option was not even available
under 2.6.18.3 until I unset the "Select only drivers that don't need
compile-time external firmware" option from the Generic Driver Options
in Device Drivers.
Unsetting this, and then setting all the "Encoders and Decoders"
to modules in the V4L Video Adapters section fixed this error for me.
