hello all,

i have attached a few output files from my computer, which i hope will shed
some light on the issue i am having. all files are from the system when all
the apps are installed, but the machine has not been restarted since the
install.

i am running FC5 x86_64 on an Athlon 64 bit. I am running the 2.6.18
(current) kernel with all packages up to date via yum or smart package
managers. I followed the howto listed on wilsonet.com for installation...

http://wilsonet.com/mythtv/fcmyth.php?SID&expandables=closed&ivtv=open&pvr350out=open

i do have the Hauppauge WinTV-PVR-350. installing the mythtv-suite went off
without a hitch. i followed the instructions to install the ivtv drivers and
edit the modprobe.conf file, finally running the depmod and modprobe commands.
all of the steps to setup the capture card (except the X output on the card,
which i am not using) completed. the test capture and the subsequent display
of the captured content did work. audio and video both worked correctly.

i then went through setting up mythbackend, running mythfilldatabase with an
account on zap2it.com, and mythfrontend. everything including the mythweb
interface running on the web server was a-ok. upon reboot loading udev fails
and a kernel panic occurs. the error states that this is not a software
problem and states that machine sync failed.

booting off the install dvd, running linux rescue, starting networking and
removing the ivtv drivers via yum will allow the machine to boot successfully.
i have recreated this event a few times with a test/control scenario. i have
commented out the lines added to modprobe.conf file, with the drivers
installed, and the error occurs. i believe this indicates an issue with the
drivers or mythtv's ability to use the drivers. the statement in the error
message indicating a hardware issue could be due to incorrect addressing of the
device by the system/kernel.

i attempted to download the 0.8.0 release of the drivers source code and
compile them, then install them. i am a bit of a n00b, and this failed with
errors that i do not understand. the ivtv drivers that i am attempting to use
do match the 2.6.18 kernel that i am running, and are for the x86_64 arch that
i am running.

has anyone worked on a system that experienced this issue? am i missing
anything in a gross oversight? any help would be greatly appreciated...

  thank you,

  brendan kearney
