Thanks for the replies...any other ideas? Been through both [1] and [2]
several times over the last few weeks. Double-checked again now. I have
nothing extra in my /etc/modprobe.conf, /etc/modprobe.conf.local, or
/etc/modprobe.d/tv files. Since it errors out right off the bat, it never
even gets to "===START INIT IVTV====" for further debug info. lspci and
hwinfo definitely finds the card fine, and the card is not defective since
it works in a 10.0/ivtv 0.4 setup. I did notice that in 10.2, I no longer
have, say, tda9887.ko.

I've even tried compiling various snapshots of v4l-dvb and dropping it in.
The latest version compiles fine but results in a bunch of unknown symbol
errors when I load the module, slightly earlier versions give the same
unknown parameter tda9887 error, and those before that don't even compile.

One thing I forgot to include is the actual console error:

FATAL: Error inserting ivtv
(/lib/modules/2.6.18.2-34-default/kernel/drivers/media/video/ivtv/ivtv.ko):
Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)

And /var/log/messages reports:

Dec 29 08:05:28 linux kernel: ivtv: Unknown parameter `tda9887'

I'm pretty much stuck here.

Yes, see [1] and [2]. Check the ivtv options set in /etc/modprobe.conf
and remove all "option ivtv" entries.
