I have been trying for the past week to get sound working from my pvr-350
card. I also have a 150 card in the box, and it is working fine. The
machine is a dedicated myth backend machine, and has no sound card.
However, doing a cat /dev/video1 (the 150) produces a mpg file that is
playable (sound & video) from a frontend machine.

Doing a cat /dev/video0 produces watchable video, but no sound.
Additionally, doing a cat /dev/video24 produces a wav file, but no sound is
contained in it (well, you know what I mean, when I play it silence is
heard, the file has size).

I tried following the instructions on a previous post :
http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/mythtv/users/116060?search_string=350%20sound;#116060

but came up with nothing. I added the alias msp3400-ivtv msp3400 line to
the modprobe.conf, but I don't have any ko file named msp3400-ivtv. I used
Wilson's fedora howto (for FC6) at http://wilsonet.com/mythtv/fcmyth.php,
using axel's install for ivtv. Do I need the msp3400-ivtv file? I had read
elsewhere that more ivtv things were flowing into the kernel, and the post
is old, so I am unsure if it is too old for my use.

Here are the contents of my /etc/modprobe.conf:

alias eth0 forcedeth
alias eth1 forcedeth
alias scsi_hostadapter sata_nv

options cx8800 video_nr=2 vbi_nr=2

# ivtv modules setup
alias msp3400-ivtv msp3400
alias char-major-81 videodev
alias char-major-81-0 ivtv
alias char-major-81-1 ivtv

And some relavent sections of dmesg:
ivtv: no version for "struct_module" found: kernel tainted.
