Hi,
I'm hoping to capture the video from my analog VCR, but so
far am getting only snow.
I'm using a Hauppauge 250 and have installed the ivtv firmware
Version 2.06.039 (boot messages are below).
The system is a dual AMD 246 (2 GHz), running 32 bit (not 64) Suse 10.2,
with 4 GB RAM.
I connected the VCR to the Hauppauge 250 "Comp V" and hit play.
Then I ran MPlayer-1.0rc1 as:
mplayer /dev/video0
but mplayer showed only snow. The mplayer messages are below.
Mplayer complained that the system is too slow, but top showed
the CPU was 91% idle.
I also tried
mplayer -ao null /dev/video0
but got the same results.
I'm pretty sure the VCR is ok, since I can play it through the TV.
How can I get this running?
Many thanks!
Steve

************************************************
**** Your system is too SLOW to play this! ****
************************************************
Possible reasons, problems, workarounds:
- Most common: broken/buggy _audio_ driver
- Try -ao sdl or use the OSS emulation of ALSA.
- Experiment with different values for -autosync, 30 is a good start.
- Slow video output
- Try a different -vo driver (-vo help for a list) or try -framedrop!
- Slow CPU
- Don't try to play a big DVD/DivX on a slow CPU! Try some of the lavdopts,
e.g. -vfm ffmpeg -lavdopts lowres=1:fast:skiploopfilter=all.
- Broken file
- Try various combinations of -nobps -ni -forceidx -mc 0.
- Slow media (NFS/SMB mounts, DVD, VCD etc)
- Try -cache 8192.
- Are you using -cache to play a non-interleaved AVI file?
- Try -nocache.
Read DOCS/HTML/en/video.html for tuning/speedup tips.
If none of this helps you, read DOCS/HTML/en/bugreports.html.
