It works fine together: the Xdriver uses the OSD hardware of the PVR350,
not the mpg output. They can both be used simultaneously, the
[local|global] alpha settings can even blend the OSD with the mpg channel.

I would imagine that only if your X-server is talking to the wrong
framebuffer device with a generic driver, the X-output will be sent to
your monitor instead of your TV-screen.

Are you sure you have the correct output of your PVR350 enabled
(Composite, S-Video)?
Use v4l2-ctl -N to list the possible outputs, v4l2-ctl -O to get the
currently selected output and v4l2-ctl -o to change the output.
